I am not going to pretend that I didn’t have the most fantastic time putting together Eliza’s Unicorn inspired birthday party! I have wanted to go a unicorn party for so long so didn’t have to be asked twice when Eliza asked to have one this year. Even though Eliza’s birthday is in the middle of July I always play it safe with the weather and book a hall, I would love to have a fully outdoor party but always worry it will rain the one day I want it to be dry.
I decided to get an entertainer to host the actual games etc as whilst in previous years Christian has gone a good job (his previous Beaver Leader experience coming in handy!) I didn’t think he could quite pull off the unicorn vibe 😂 The amazing Tracey from Dreams of Pixie Dust, who was Cinderella last year came as Princess Sparkle (aka a pink unicorn!) and just had the kids captivated the whole time.
Pinterest as always has a lot to answer for in my life and after Eliza and I spent a good hour or two browsing through all the amazing things we settled on the style of Unicorn cake which Cat from Cats Creations turned into gorgeous reality and Zoe from Mumadukedesigns created glittery unicorn heads for the cupcakes 😍
The cake was amazing and Eliza was so happy!!! The food was themed with unicorn shaped sandwiches, skittles (rainbow seeds), marshmallows with white chocolate and sprinkles on the top, rainbow fruit skewers, rainbow jelly with unicorn horns on the top. You can make the horns by using a chocolate seashell mould from Lakeland and white candy melts! There was also unicorn bark, 3 colours of candy melts, lightly mixed and covered in sprinkles, not entirely healthy but its a party right?!
I also printed out some free unicorn printables from Pinterest and framed them to add some theming to the main food table. The super cool backdrop was from Amazon.
On the food table I had spray painted lots of old glass jars gold and then filled them with flowers, it was one thing that Eliza really wanted on the tables – a girl after her mothers heart! There were also jars filled with pencils for the kids to colour in colouring if they got bored during eating.
I made each one of the children coming a unicorn headband which turned into a real labour of love 😬 Its a white hand band from Amazon, with felt flowers, ears, leaves and horn handmade from felt and then glue gunned into place, after 25 I was 100% questioning my life choices….
Something that really helped was having each child’s name on the party bags by the door, as they won prizes or took off their head bands I could quickly pop them in the right bag for them to leave with. At the start I also put a headband in each bag so when they arrived I could easily scan the bags and see which children had yet to arrive!
In the party bags was a unicorn cookie from The Little Biscuit Factory (so annoyed I didn’t get a photo of them!) a slice of cake, and their hand band 😍 Eliza had the best time dancing away with her friends, having hugs with a unicorn and getting to live all her pink glittery dreams 💕
